We all are pretty aware about both the terms Branding and Marketing but ever wondered what is the key difference between marketing and branding? They are like twin brothers who may look alike but their purpose/role is bit different but at the same time both are inseparable.
Branding is the older one followed by Marketing. "Branding builds the foundation of your company while Marketing is the extension to it."
Brand is the promise that you make with your audience. Branding is more of the impression, conception, core values, positioning, visualisation, appearance of your product/service/company. It is a strategy driven concept focussing more on Pull approach. Strong brand management can create preference, loyalty, emotional connection with the audience and assure a future stream of revenue. Branding is like once in a lifetime activity, which is done after a lot of research on your product/service itself. Re- branding is the time taking and exhaustive process in itself. We build a Brand Ones, Position it ones and that is applicable for global audience. Brand management is the whole process to keep up with all promises and deliver best always.

Nope, Don’t get confuse between them. It’s not same at all. Advertising is passing on the word about your products to the marketplace.” “Advertising is the message about your business. Branding is the message you receive from others. Advertising can enhance brand awareness, while branding drives the style and direction of advertising campaigns. We can say that Advertising is the subset of Marketing activities.
While Marketing is more of tactical driven concept based on Push approach, It has more to do with How to attract customers by telling them unique pointers, expression, USP’s, Differentiators, Offers etc. Marketing is guided by business goals, segmenting markets, selecting target audience, determining pricing, packaging and distribution, integrating media, executing creative campaigns that leads to profitable sales. Marketing strategy always need to revive, Refurbish based on your target market, market conditions and campaigns. Marketing is done based on lot of research on Market and it could be different on need of different market.
Asking my opinion, I would say Branding is more important because it’s an intangible asset which creates a long term value, impression, goodwill in the mind of customers and through right marketing campaigns you can encash and achieve your business goals.
Now, Most of the companies they prefer to hire a specialist as in branding and marketing agencies to manage their brand management and marketing campaigns, Since today is an era of Digital branding and it requires to scale a level up in terms of brand reputation management. Thats what we call as Digital Brand management, which is the need of today’s strategic branding.
I would like to conclude it by saying that Brand is Soul, root originality of your organisation where as Marketing is the way of reaching out to as many people via wearing up different communication tools. Branding is – “Who You are?” and Marketing is – “Building awareness”.
